Continuity Safety- S-CAT

Steel cargo trailers that are lined have always had the capability of using continuity testers to test for a breach in the lining to the structure. Spark testing per DOT 180.407, (f) using a spark tester has been the conventional method for years. This is used for mostly in rubber lined vessels. This information is my interpretation of the requirements and code following DOT 180.407 in the 49 CFR. I have worked for many years to develop the experience and credibility to manage the proper inspections for these tankers. CCI works with NTTC and DOT to follow the regulations as written. Please email admin@ccifrp.com for additional questions or comments

Most all of the Special Permit FRP tankers offer continuity.

This list has been developed to show the training and experience that Corrosion Companies Inc., or a similar shop would want to have as a minimum, to repair or inspect DOT 49 CFR 180.407 lined or FRP Composite (SP) cargo tankers. If the inspection involves a Special Permit trailer, then a copy of the special permit needs to be obtained, and the manufacturer notified if the permit requires, of any work to be performed.
